Biotonomy Academy - Austria, July 2023

Biotonomy is thrilled to announce its first Academy session in Austria, which will take place from July 3 to 28, 2023. Our Academy will teach participants how to design and construct an Autonomous Building using Nature Based Solutions from the ground up. The course includes both hands-on experience and theoretical classes, and no previous construction experience is required.

The tuition fee for the Academy is 2260 Euros and includes accommodation and three meals a day.

About the Building

We will be building a Educational Center for Permaculture. The Building is designed to be completely self-sufficent in terms of heating, cooling, water, electricity, waste-water management and food production. We will use a combination of natural and recyled materials for building the structure.

This design includes following Nature Based Solutions and techniques.

• Natural Heating & Cooling
• Natural Ventilation
• Water Harvesting System
• Solar power system for electricity and Hot Water
• Biological waste-water system, 
• Water recyling system 
• Greenhouse with fooodproduction system
• Green Roof
• Building with Natural & Recyled Mateirlas

You will be learning how these Nature Based Solutions are designed and constructucted during your Academy.

About the land

The building will be located on a permaculture farm just 10 minutes from Feldkirchen in Carinthia, on the south side of Wachsenberg. The land sits 700 meters above sea level and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The farm has been transformed from an abandoned farm into a beautiful permaculture farm in just a few years.

The property is located in southern Austria, near the small town of Feldkirchen, close to the Italian border. It is a 3-hour drive from Venice, Italy, and a 3.5-hour drive from Vienna, Austria. There are also good train and bus connections to the town.

About the Accomodation

Accomodation is included in the price and is located just a 15-minute walk away from the construction site. The student accommodation is situated in a calm and beautiful location surrounded by nature. The building is designed with traditional Austrian architecture and was previously served as a school. Accommodation arrangements will comprise of shared rooms. You will need to bring your own airmatress & sleping bag. For those interested in private accomodation camping on the permaculture farm will also be an option. The student accomodation also include showers with hot water and WC. For those interested in camping, the permaculture farm offers camping options as well. 

About Food 

Food is also included in the price and will be served 3 times a day - Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. You will have the option to choose betwen Vegiterian, Vegan and meat. If you have any allergies or special dietery needs we will make sure to take care of that. Please specify this information in the sign up form and we will ensure that your needs are addressed. 

About Payment

The total cost of the Academy is 2260 Euros, which covers accommodation and three meals per day for four weeks. To secure your spot, a deposit of 500 Euros is required upon registration. An invoice for the deposit will be sent to you separately. The remaining balance must be paid six weeks before the Academy starts, and we will provide you with an invoice for that as well.
